We conducted a study to evaluate the cost savings that can be achieved through the implementation of an IP management solution.  The results of this study indicate that a company filing 50 new patent applications per year, could save from $50,000 to over $200,000 annually.

Savings of this magnitude are made possible as Decipher™ reduces the amount of time spent on low-value administrative tasks by approximately 75%, when compared to typical paper-based prosecution systems.  The findings of this study apply equally to corporate legal departments that prosecute patents internally and to those that use outside counsel.

The study shows that as a result of implementing an IP management solution such as Decipher, corporate IP departments have, at the very least, and opportunity to:

  • Better leverage existing in-house and outside counsel resources;
  • Focus limited resources on more high value tasks;
  • Reduce outside counsel fees, or;
  • Reduce internal headcount.

This particular study focuses on the patent prosecution process only.  Additional savings can be realized and incremental value captured in the invention disclosure process, overall IP portfolio management, reporting, and the commercialization or licensing process- all delivered though Decipher.
